About Popstar Online

Popstar Online is a free life sim about building a career in music and entertainment, from busking on a subway platform to headlining the Tokyo Dome. It plays in any modern browser on a phone or computer, with nothing to download.

Where it comes from

Popstar Online is the newest game in the Essential Popstar series. The character creator and the characters themselves come from Essential Popstar 2, rebuilt through Essential Popstar 2.5, and the same rig now walks, sits, performs and talks in every room of the game. Players who knew the earlier games will recognise the faces, outfits and humour.

How it's made

Every place in the game, from the studio flat to the Grand Palais in Paris, is modelled and rendered in Blender, then turned into a room you can walk around in. Characters are animated live with Rive, so the same character can hold a mic, sit on a talk show couch or lie down to sleep. The game logic, from gig payouts to court cases, runs the same way whether you play online or on your own.

Who makes it

The game is made by an independent developer and updated most weeks, often several times a week. You can follow what's changed on the updates page.

How it's paid for

The game is free to play. It is supported by optional in-game purchases (cash packs and a one-time Premium unlock) and by advertising on this website. Every home, car and career rank can be earned by playing; Premium adds the Modeling career and a few perks, and cash packs only save time.
